Foster girls become extremely vulnerable to exploitation in the U.S. starting at age 12.

Sex trafficking is when a person is manipulated, exploited, or forced into sex for another’s profit against their will.

A trafficker (aka “pimp”) preys on youth by flirting on social media or in person. Over 60% of trafficking victims recovered in an FBI nationwide raid were children from foster care.

The Bay Area…

One of the nation’s largest hubs for sex trafficking

In a city full of dreamers,

more than 7,000 foster children live a nightmare.

 HUMAN TRAFFICKING IS EVERYWHERE

It’s Hiding in Plain Sight

Here are some eye-opening facts …

WHO

is being trafficked?

Who is being trafficked?

Anyone is fair game and most are U.S. citizens.

In the state of California, 98% of sex trafficking victims are women and girls. They can start as a troubled youth or as a valedictorian.

Regardless of age, traffickers are masterminds at preying on the vulnerable.

WHERE Is It Happening?

It’s in every town, zip code and suburb. It’s in your backyard.

One of the nation’s most notorious sex traffickers was arrested in his home in Danville, CA in 2015 after appearing on America’s Most Wanted. He’d taken “Natasha”, a former Miss America contestant out of a shopping mall and threatened to kill her family if she tried to escape.

WHY

don't they just leave?

Find Out

Why don’t they just leave?

A trafficker stops at nothing. They will do whatever they must to convince a girl she can never leave and survive. Some victims still try to escape but are severely beaten.

Often times, they are shown pictures of their family members and told that if they run a loved one will be killed. Traffickers are known to hold passports by girls or young women coming into the country, or delay the education they were promised until after the “work” comes.

Traffickers will go to any means to brainwash their victims until they believe they have no other choice and cannot live outside “the life”—so they become wholly dependent on their captor. Traffickers are master manipulators.

The life of ONE

Children without families to make them feel loved and cared for are most vulnerable to trafficking.

Thousands of children between the ages of 18-21 must leave foster care unsupported each year. Often they have no diploma or job experience and must live independently. They’re expected to find housing in the Bay Area—the most expensive in the nation—as well as feed and clothe themselves with no real guidance.

The impact of ONE

One of the avenues to meeting the needs of vulnerable foster youth is through our mentorship program. By connecting the youth to their very own ‘mentor mom’ they receive necessary guidance.

The mentor believes in the youth’s full potential and is trained to teach life skills. They help them secure a diploma or degree, and work to connect them to an internship or entry-level position for a career that aligns with the youth’s talents and interests.

We fight for the ONE

Each ONE of us can reach ONE as we serve the ONE.

We believe every person is created with love for a purpose.

Our Dream Team is a tight-knit group of freedom-fighters who work with a broad network to create paths that meet the needs of each foster girl we serve—with the goal of allowing her the freedom to dream.

We know that ONE small action by each person leads to life-long change.

In the end two are better than one. If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three or more is not easily broken.
